Spider-Man is back, and this time he’s on the big screen. This film is a reboot of the franchise, and the first Spider-Man movie of this era. The Amazing Spider-Man is set in New York, and has Peter Parker as a high school student who works for his father’s company as a lab assistant after school. The movie also stars Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Denis Leary, Campbell Scott and Sally Field. This film departs from its predecessors by not following the classic comic book storyline of Peter Parker becoming Spider-Man to find out who killed his uncle Ben when he was younger. Instead, we see a young Parker who has already been bitten by a spider and gained his powers and has already started fighting crime. This is certainly an interesting way to do things, as we get to see Peter Parker as Spider-Man from the beginning rather than the very end of his story. The Amazing Spider-Man was directed by Marc Webb (500 Days of Summer) and written by James Vanderbilt (Zodiac). The film is produced by Avi Arad (Iron Man 1 & 2), Matt Tolmach (The Amazing Spider-Man) and Laura Ziskin, who were producers on the original Sam Raimi trilogy. "The Amazing Spider-Man" grossed $709,000 in Thursday night previews starting at 6:00 p.m. EDT at the IMAX theater in Times Square. The film grossed $35.1 million on its opening day.
